On an antique Japanese Tensu chest from Ark Antiques, an antique Buddha head shares space with a flat-screen TV. Van der Loo says that here, as she does in most of her room designs, she considered yin and yang - the sleek, high-tech television balanced by the aged warmth of the antique wood chest and detailed Buddha head. " The constant back-and-forth [between contrasting elements] is what really made the room interesting," she says. Sheer curtains flanked by silk panels soften the windows. The designer had armchairs, she owned, silver-leafed to match the moldings, and covered them with a Clarence House fabric. Pillows are from Dransfield & Ross.
