The Goal
The homeowner, with a serious passion for cooking, wanted a kitchen that offered plenty of space for her family to join around as she mastered the art of cooking. As part of the first floor addition, she also wanted a powder room, mudroom and family room. The 2nd floor addition encompassed a master bedroom suite and a redesigned bathroom for their daughters. The 3rd story included an office and a bathroom.
Papyrus Home Design developed the floor plans and elevations for the kitchens and baths, to reflect the tastes and desires of the homeowner. PHD was also responsible for the overall design direction and material acquisition for the entire 3 story addition. Special attention to detail was given to function, carpentry and storage in the kitchen.
The original kitchen was an earlier renovation that was not in keeping with the architecture of the house. The new kitchen is a carefully planned addition with the new master bedroom suite directly above and a 3rd story office above the master suite. The mudroom and bathroom adjacent to the kitchen are united in design and compliment the kitchen.
The 9 foot long marble kitchen island has plenty of storage below and plenty of work space above.
A custom built shelf in the island, to accommodate the stand mixer, lifts easily out and back. This is strategically placed across from the refrigerator, so ingredients can be easily accessed while baking.
The metal shelf below the hood acts as a plate warming rack that also serves as a shelf for commonly used items such as olive oil.
The built in bench is integrated into the bay window. The cabinets below the bench serve as extra storage space for a multitude of items.
