The Goal
To create a home with an open floor plan that would meet the needs of a family of five. The redesign included an addition off the kitchen and the reconfiguration of several existing smaller rooms. The homeowner, who was initially reluctant to hire an interior designer, exclaimed it was “the best money we ever spent!”
Papyrus Home Design collaborated with the architect to create a floor plan that optimized the square footage in the best possible way. PHD worked with the cabinetmaker on designing all of the cabinets throughout the house.
Previously the home had several small rooms. The sunken living room off the kitchen is an addition. PHD designed the kitchen layout specifically for how the family functions - for example a station was designed for the kids to prep their school lunches during their morning routine.
A monochromatic palette in the kitchen, dining and living room is accented with pops of tangerine and pink, giving a fresh modern vibe. The paper towel rack is built into the kitchen island, extra thick marble on kitchen island adds visual weight - both great design ideas that came from the homeowner.
