Boonton Antique Home
The client initially considered adding an addition to the house. I suggested that if they were comfortable with the current kitchen size, I could significantly improve its functionality while incorporating the additional storage they requested within the existing footprint. Although somewhat skeptical, the clients agreed to proceed with developing floor plans and elevations. I realigned the door openings, removed a non-functioning chimney, and designed custom cabinetry that extended to the nine-foot ceiling to maximize storage. The client had purchased a cobalt blue La Cornue range, which they wanted to serve as the focal point of the kitchen. To complement it, a friend custom-made the backsplash tiles for the updated space. In the adjacent dining room, we added wainscot paneling along with a complementary organic wallpaper. A new pocket door allows the spaces to be separated when desired, making it possible to close off the enthusiastic chef’s activity from the dining area.
