The Goal
To create a kitchen with an open floor plan that would meet the needs of a family of six plus their cats and dogs. The redesign also included a reconfiguration of the existing mudroom and powder room, as well as many updates to the decor of the existing living room. The homeowners desired interiors that harmonized with the natural surroundings and gave the family ample views of the lake while cooking.
The homeowner had a GC that Papyrus Home Design worked with to renovate the kitchen, mudroom and powder room. PHD was responsible for the overall design direction and material selection.
PHD removed a peninsula that was blocking the lake view and natural light, and added a large island with a prep sink. This became a great space for the children to do their homework. An added convenience was that this allowed the parents to be able to converse with the children while prepping for meals.
Let the outside in! The existing slate fireplace in the living room was the inspiration for all of the organic material selections, such as the American Walnut cabinets and the natural slate floors. The living room rug was custom made to incorporate the colors of the fire place. The Onyx light fixture above the island adds to the warmth of the space.
