The Cook Next Door
Strategic space planning transformed an unattractive 1980s kitchen with a poor layout into a space that feels true to the home’s original 1920s charm. Acting as general contractor, Papyrus Home Design collaborated with the homeowner and cabinetmaker to create a light-filled, highly functional kitchen, restoring ceiling height with custom cabinetry and crown molding while thoughtfully repositioning the sink and adding a new window for improved flow and natural light.
Creative solutions resolved structural challenges without unnecessary expense: steam pipes were concealed within custom corbels, shallow cabinetry discreetly hid a chimney while housing a microwave, and reworking circulation allowed for a dedicated marble baking counter and a cleverly redesigned recycling and basement entry. The result is a kitchen that feels both timeless and beautifully tailored to clients who love to cook.
